Paracoccus Yeei
Paracoccus yeei is an aerobic Gram-negative coccobacilli typically found in soil and brine. It appears as diplococci and may have a visible vacuole – giving an “O” shaped appearance. It may under-decolourise and appear as Gram-positive cocci. It is oxidase-positive and confused with Moraxella/Neisseria. Identification can be made using automated systems like VITEK-2 GN, MALDI-ToF and DNA sequencing.
P yeei are increasingly being reported as a cause of human infection.
It has been reported to cause peritoneal dialysis-associated infection, wound infection (ankle/toe/leg), ear and eye infection (corneal ulcer, uveitis, endophthalmitis).
It also has been isolated from neck incision drainage, cerebrospinal fluid, bile and blood.
This bacteria has been reported as susceptible to ampicillin, ampicillin-sulbactam, amoxicillin-clavulanic acid, piperacillintazobactam, cefazolin, cefuroxime sodium, and cefepime. Broad-spectrum cephalosporins may have a high MIC. Moxifloxacin has also been reported to be effective.
