It appears as diplococci and may have a visible vacuole \u2013 giving an \u201cO\u201d shaped appearance. It may under-decolourise and appear as Gram-positive cocci. It is oxidase-positive and confused with Moraxella\/Neisseria. Identification can be made using automated systems like VITEK-2 GN, MALDI-ToF and DNA sequencing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>P yeei are increasingly being reported as a cause of human infection.<br>It has been reported to cause peritoneal dialysis-associated infection, wound infection (ankle\/toe\/leg), ear and eye infection (corneal ulcer, uveitis, endophthalmitis).<br>It also has been isolated from neck incision drainage, cerebrospinal fluid, bile and blood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This bacteria has been reported as susceptible to ampicillin, ampicillin-sulbactam, amoxicillin-clavulanic acid, piperacillintazobactam, cefazolin, cefuroxime sodium, and cefepime. Broad-spectrum cephalosporins may have a high MIC.
