It needs effort and preparation. The key to passing the exam is question practice based on my previous exam experiences in my life. As the saying goes, practice makes perfect; the more you practice the exam format of either the best of five questions or PACES a hundred times, the higher the chance you will have PASS. However, I find the CICE quite challenging. There is no question banks to practise, no specific study materials to read, and no courses to guide how to pass the exam like MRCP or other speciality exit exams. I have struggled a lot during exam preparation due to the exam challenge and the unexpected situation in my mother country. But that is how I have prepared for the CICE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Sharing experience on taking the Combined Infection Certificate Examination (CICE)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kAc6yx91TxU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Before I share my exam experience, I explain my background slightly because not all the readers are UK based exam candidates. I believe everyone will have different ways of exam preparation depending on their background experiences. I am one of the speciality trainees in the two years combined infection training program of the UK, including medical microbiology, infectious disease, and virology rotation. I did the exam after 19 months of training. I have been attending the MSc Infectious disease by distance learning from the LSHTM for 1-2 years before enrolling in the training. However, I started reading, focusing on the exam four months before the exam dates, and intensively prepared for about three weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I prepared the reading list based on the combined infection training curriculum, which includes ten main topics.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The basic biology of bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites: host-pathogen relationships<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Microbiology\/virology laboratory practice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Health and safety<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Principles of public health about communicable disease<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Infection prevention and control<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Important clinical syndromes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Understanding the use of antimicrobial agents<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vaccination<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The management of HIV infection<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Travel and geographical health<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>The curriculum details can be found in this link \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.jrcptb.org.uk%2Fsites%2Fdefault%2Ffiles%2F2015%2520Iinfectious%2520Diseases%2520Curriculum%2520with%2520HIT.pdf&amp;sa=D&amp;sntz=1&amp;usg=AOvVaw1txRSxNE59nY2uouqxrNdX\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/www.jrcptb.org.uk\/sites\/default\/files\/2015%20Iinfectious%20Diseases%20Curriculum%20with%20HIT.pdf<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>A new curriculum (2021) have been published since this article was written. I think any medical microbiology textbook can cover basic science.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Basic medical statistics like specificity, sensitivity, NNT, power of the test, etc., must know as well.
